Located in nearby Cambridge, the Cambridge Lutheran Church founded in 1864 is the only Lutheran church that opened its doors during the U.S. Civil War. The church’s mission is to connect people with Christ and to love God and others. It encourages members to go out into the world and make disciples of others through worship, ministry, and evangelism.
In addition to helping those in the nearby community, the church partners with the Mashiah Foundation in Nigeria. It began working with the Jos, Nigeria, group in 2006 to address the African HIV/AIDS crisis. One of the church’s members traveled to the city and wanted to make a difference. Since then, other members have traveled to the area.
In 2010, the church raised $10,000 to buy a new generator for the foundation. This allowed power for a new medical clinic and job training center as well as a school and home for children and widows. In 2014, the church raised more than $2,500 to fund repairs to a bridge that allows children to attend school. And in 2015, the church donated $2,300 to help support the ministry.
